Using AI To Detect Skin Conditions

2 billion people around the world have skin, hair, and nail conditions.

DermAssist is a skin search app by Google Health, aimed at helping users identify skin conditions using AI technology. Users answer questions and upload three photos to receive information about potential matching conditions.

The app can identify 288 different skin, hair, and nail conditions. It is currently undergoing further testing and is not yet available in the United States. Google ensures data privacy and is committed to making the app work across all skin tones and types.

AI Generated Speech Detector

It's becoming really important to be able to tell if content like images, audio, or video was made by a human or an AI. This is especially true for AI-generated speech, and one of the big players in this field is a company called ElevenLabs.

They've made a tool called the AI Speech Classifier that can tell if a piece of audio was made by their AI system. As more and more content is created by AI, ElevenLabs knows that we need strong systems in place to make sure everything is used safely and responsibly. Their AI Speech Classifier helps with this by being really good at its job—it can correctly identify their AI-generated audio over 99% of the time if the audio hasn't been changed.

Mercedes-Benz Is Adding ChatGPT

Mercedes-Benz is integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into the voice control of over 900,000 vehicles in the U.S. equipped with the MBUX infotainment system. This addition is part of a beta program starting June 16, 2023. Customers can join the program via the Mercedes me app or directly from their vehicle using the voice command “Hey Mercedes, I want to join the beta programme”. The integration is enabled by the Azure OpenAI Service from Microsoft, which provides cloud and AI capabilities.

Try On Clothes With AI

Google is launching two features to improve online clothes shopping: a virtual try-on tool and guided refinements. The try-on tool uses AI to show how clothes would look on various real models, and it's initially available for certain women's tops. Guided refinements use machine learning to help shoppers adjust their product choices based on factors like color, style, and pattern. These features aim to make online shopping more personalized and accurate, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

TikTok Buys $1 Billion Worth of GPUs

Chinese tech companies like ByteDance, Tencent, Baidu, and Alibaba are spending a lot of money on Nvidia's powerful computer products. In fact, ByteDance alone is said to have ordered $1 billion worth of Nvidia's graphics processing units (GPUs) in 2023. That's about 100,000 GPUs, each costing $10,000.

To give you an idea of how much that is, Nvidia and Microsoft recently said they used thousands of a type of GPU called the A100 to train ChatGPT. But we don't know if ByteDance bought this type, because the A100 and another type called the H100 aren't allowed to be sold to China.

Why are these Chinese tech companies buying so many of these powerful computer parts? They want to make sure they stay competitive in the field of AI, and they also see the financial benefits that AI can bring.

A.I. Meme of the Day

A humorous meme has been making rounds on the internet, featuring an image from a Tom and Jerry episode from 1952. The episode humorously portrays Tom being replaced by a robot cat, Mechano, because of his laziness. However, the AI cat's reign is short-lived and chaotic.

Mechano does manage to kick Jerry out of the house, but Jerry fights back using mechanical mice, turning the house into a chaotic battlefield. Unable to stop Mechano's destructive pursuit of the fake mice, Mammy calls on Tom for help. Mechano ends up self-destructing, and Tom inadvertently ingests its computer core.

With Mechano gone, Mammy gratefully brings Tom back on board as the official mouse-catcher. But Jerry, the ever-mischievous mouse, uses Mechano's remote to make Tom act like the erratic robot, paving the way for even more chaos.

Episode 70 part 1, part 2, and part 3 of "Push Button Kitty" unfolded through its three parts over 60 years ago. This serves as a reminder that artificial intelligence has a long way to go before it can replace humans.
