PRIVACY
LinkedIn is training AI models on your data
LinkedIn (owned by Microsoft) has automatically opted users into having their personal data used to train generative AI models without explicit consent. The company introduced a new privacy setting and opt-out option before updating its privacy policy, which now states that data may be used to develop and improve AI models and services.
Users can opt out by going to their account settings under the "Data for Generative AI Improvement" tab and toggling it off. However, opting out only stops future use of data for AI training and does not affect past usage.

Runway partners with Lionsgate
New York-based AI startup Runway, already used in Hollywood films like Everything, Everywhere, All at Once, has signed a deal with Lionsgate to create a custom AI video production and editing model using the studio’s extensive library of over 20,000 titles.
This partnership marks the first time a major film studio has directly collaborated with an AI video model provider. Lionsgate will use Runway’s AI for storyboarding, background creation, and special effects, especially for action scenes..

HEALTHCARE
1 in 5 UK GP doctors use AI tools
A survey of 1,006 GPs published in BMJ Health and Care Informatics revealed that one in five GPs use AI tools like ChatGPT for tasks such as writing letters after appointments, with nearly 30% using AI for documentation and 28% for suggesting diagnoses. A quarter of GPs also use AI to suggest treatment options.
While the tools help with administrative tasks and clinical reasoning, concerns have been raised about patient privacy, data protection, and the accuracy of AI-generated content. Experts urge doctors to use AI ethically and in compliance with regulations as this technology evolves in healthcare.

OpenAI’s new safety board
OpenAI has established a new independent safety board following a 90-day safety review to oversee the safety and security of its AI products. However, questions have been raised about how independent the board truly is, as all its members, including Adam D'Angelo, Paul Nakasone, and Nicole Seligman, are affiliated with OpenAI, unlike Meta's fully external oversight board.
While the new board has the power to delay model launches over safety concerns, critics argue that internal members may prioritize the company's success over safety. OpenAI has faced previous criticism for deprioritizing safety, and only time will tell if the new board can ensure proper oversight.
