Sam Altman and Bill Gates talk about GPT-5 and more

Sam Altman of OpenAI and Microsoft's Bill Gates recently discussed the future of AI, including the development of ChatGPT and the pursuit of superintelligence, on the Unconfuse Me podcast. They talked about enhancing ChatGPT with video capabilities and improving its reasoning abilities. The focus is on making the upcoming GPT-5 model more accurate and customizable, with potential access to users' personal data for a tailored experience.

Altman expressed concerns about the technology's reliability and the need for better control measures. The U.S. government is considering stricter AI regulations, especially in the context of its tech rivalry with China. Meanwhile, Altman's long-term goal is to achieve superintelligence, a level of AI that surpasses human cognitive abilities.

Congressional hearing regarding AI-ready workforce

The U.S. is currently a global leader in AI, with American companies and institutions at the forefront of sophisticated AI models and cutting-edge research. As AI adoption becomes widespread globally, maintaining this lead is crucial for national security and economic prosperity. Concerns about the STEM education pipeline, especially in cybersecurity, are highlighted, pointing to the need for alternative education programs like boot camps for training and upskilling.

The U.S. faces competition from China, which is aggressively expanding its AI education and trying to attract AI talent. And the Chinese Ministry of Education has approved in recent years hundreds of new university AI programs, according to Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology, which also found that AI is the most popular new major in China.

EU wants transparency of AI tools in music

The European Parliament has called for fair and sustainable EU rules in the music streaming sector to address revenue imbalances and promote cultural diversity. The resolution emphasizes revising outdated royalty rates and considering quotas for European musical works to ensure their visibility and accessibility amidst the vast content on streaming platforms.

Additionally, they also demand transparency in the use of algorithms and AI tools by streaming services, including labeling AI-generated songs and addressing deepfake issues. They also call for correct metadata allocation to identify right-holders and suggest incorporating diversity indicators to assess genre and language variety, emphasizing the need for a European strategy to boost the diversity and presence of independent authors in the music industry.

OpenAI and 2024 elections

OpenAI says they are dedicated to maintaining election integrity, ensuring its technology, especially AI tools, is not used improperly. As global elections near, efforts focus on platform safety, accurate voting information, policy enforcement, and transparency. A team works to prevent abuses like deepfakes and ensure responsible use of tools like ChatGPT.

Efforts include enhancing transparency around AI-generated content and integrating real-time news in ChatGPT for informed voter decisions. In the U.S., collaboration with the National Association of Secretaries of State provides authoritative voting information. These measures, along with continuous adaptation and learning, aim to protect against tool misuse in elections.
