Reddit to launch own AI-powered chatbot

Reddit is testing a new AI-powered chatbot, Reddit Answers, to enhance user search experiences and engagement by providing AI-curated summaries of discussions, links to related communities, and the ability to ask follow-up questions. Initially available to select users in the U.S. on web and iOS, the feature uses AI models from Reddit, Google, and OpenAI to streamline the search process and deliver faster, more relevant results. Reddit plans to expand the chatbot’s language and location support in the future as part of its broader vision to improve search functionality across the platform.

GovAI Coalition

The GovAI Coalition is now comprised of 1,700 professionals from 550 government organizations, aims to navigate the challenges and opportunities posed by artificial intelligence. At the GovAI Coalition Summit in San Jose, leaders emphasized the need for collaborative governance, ethical frameworks, and risk management to ensure AI tools are deployed responsibly and transparently.

Highlighting lessons from past technological disruptions, like cybersecurity, speakers stressed the urgency of preparing for AI’s rapid advancements to maintain public trust and avoid potential missteps that could undermine nationwide credibility. The coalition fosters policy discussions to ensure AI innovations serve the public effectively without unintended consequences.

Meta has launched its Llama 3.3 70B model, demonstrating the growing competitiveness of open AI models against proprietary systems. Despite its smaller size, Llama 3.3 delivers performance rivaling larger models like Llama 3.1 405B and surpassing OpenAI's GPT-4o and Google's Gemini Pro 1.5 in some benchmarks.

Designed for efficiency, it enables developers to run advanced AI on modest hardware, making it ideal for both enterprise and individual users. The model supports eight languages and allows customization for specific needs, further enhancing its appeal. With over 350 million downloads globally and adoption by major companies like Goldman Sachs and Zoom, Meta is solidifying its position as a leader in general-purpose AI.

OpenAI Canvas

OpenAI has fully launched its Canvas tool, moving it out of beta and introducing new features like the ability to run Python code within a Canvas document and support for custom GPTs. Originally introduced as a notebook-style interface for writing and coding alongside ChatGPT, Canvas now allows users to receive and implement feedback through comments. Programming improvements enable users to paste code for debugging, run it directly, and identify errors.
