Microsoft and Meta Expects LIama 2 to Be Better Than ChatGPT

Meta has unveiled Llama 2, a new family of AI language models that stand out for their commercial license, allowing integration into commercial products unlike their previous version. Ranging from 7 to 70 billion parameters, these models reportedly outperform open source chat models on various benchmarks. Llama 2 supports open innovation in AI and is available on Microsoft Azure, with future plans to be accessible on AWS and Hugging Face.

While open source AI models, like Llama 2, have advantages such as transparency and democratizing access, they also raise concerns about potential misuse and privacy issues. Nonetheless, Meta emphasizes responsible and open innovation to allow everyone to benefit from this technology.

Dark Web Hackers Using Worm GPT

A lawless AI, named WormGPT, was discovered on the dark web by a cybersecurity firm. Trained on malware-related data, it assists hackers in creating malware and phishing emails. WormGPT was found to be remarkably persuasive and cunning in writing phishing emails.

This highlights the potential for AI to be misused for criminal activities and poses a significant challenge for cyber police in combating such AI-powered threats. Hackers can now launch larger and faster attacks, making it harder to detect scams. The incident underscores the dual nature of AI's capabilities, as it can be used for both good and malicious purposes.

Be My Eyes and Open A.I. Collaboration Violates Privacy Laws

OpenAI collaborated with Be My Eyes, a startup developing an app to help blind users interpret images and interact with the world independently. The app utilizes OpenAI's image-processing abilities to describe images for blind users. However, OpenAI has curtailed GPT-4's facial recognition abilities due to privacy concerns, as it could potentially infringe upon privacy laws in certain regions. The company also worries about misinterpretation of facial features leading to harmful outcomes.

Microsoft, an investor in OpenAI, is testing a limited rollout of visual analysis in its AI-powered Bing chatbot based on GPT-4 technology. Google has also introduced image analysis features in its Bard chatbot. Despite advancements, there are challenges to overcome before widespread ethical use of AI-powered computer vision can be achieved.

India’s Infosys Agrees with Anonymous Client for a $2B Target Spend

Infosys, a major software company, has signed an agreement with a client to provide AI and automation services. The client plans to spend around $2 billion over the next five years on these services. Infosys is focusing on AI technology, which can improve operations in various industries. They recently launched Topaz services, which use AI to create new opportunities. However, they face competition from other companies like Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro, who are also investing in AI.

Llama 2 Now On Phones and PCs

Qualcomm and Meta have announced a partnership to bring the Llama 2 large language model to Qualcomm chips on phones and PCs in 2024. LLMs have typically run on powerful servers with Nvidia graphics processors, but Qualcomm aims to position its processors for AI on devices, making AI more accessible and efficient. By running Llama 2 on phones, the cost of AI models can be reduced, leading to faster and better voice assistants and apps. Qualcomm's chips have a specialized processor for AI calculations, and the collaboration with Meta will enable applications like intelligent virtual assistants. Meta's Llama 2 is unique as it's an open-source model, allowing researchers and businesses to use it without restrictions, unlike closed-source LLMs with closely guarded secrets.
