Secret Agents Will Not Be Replaced by A.I. Soon

In a speech, the head of Britain's MI6, Richard Moore, reassured that AI won't replace human intelligence gathering, as the unique bond in human relationships is crucial for spies. However, he warned about the risks of AI in intelligence operations, citing China's data gathering for AI development. The US is also exploring AI's role in spying while safeguarding sensitive information from adversaries.

Injecting Human Brains Into A.I.

Scientists have received funding to research combining human brain cells with artificial intelligence. They've already made brain cells that can play a video game. The goal is to create a new kind of AI that can learn throughout its lifetime, like our brains do. This could lead to better technology, like self-driving cars and delivery robots. The research might help us understand how our brains learn and improve AI machines. Some people are concerned about the risks of AI and want the government to be careful about how it's used. The government is reviewing AI to make sure it's used safely and responsibly.

Angry Authors Want Money for Helping Train A.I.

Many famous authors are asking tech companies to pay them for using their books and writings to train artificial intelligence (AI) tools. They believe that AI companies are benefiting from their copyrighted work without giving them fair compensation. These authors want the CEOs of companies like OpenAI, Facebook (Meta), Google, IBM, Microsoft, and Stability AI to acknowledge their request. The tech industry is using AI to create images and written content based on user input, but some authors are concerned that this process violates their intellectual property rights.

There have been lawsuits filed against OpenAI and Meta for alleged copyright infringement. The authors are demanding payment for past and future use of their works in AI programs and want the companies to ask for permission before using their copyrighted material. They also refer to a Supreme Court ruling that emphasized the importance of respecting copyright when using someone's work for commercial purposes. Some tech companies are starting to address these concerns and consider ways to compensate creators for their contributions to AI.

Together Helping Elders Manage their Health

A new iPhone app called "Together" uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help older adults and their caregivers manage medications and health care tasks. With the app, users can take a photo of a prescription bottle, and the AI technology will detect important information about the medication, like the doctor's name, dosage, refill dates, and any precautions. The app is designed to assist with simple tasks like scheduling appointments and taking vitals, and it allows users to share their health data with loved ones. It's not meant to replace a doctor's advice, but rather to provide guidance and support for patients and caregivers. The app is also designed to protect user privacy, ensuring that data is kept confidential and only shared with those the user chooses to invite.

Cerebras Creates Largest A.I Training Supercomputer

Cerebras Systems and G42 have teamed up to create a supercomputing network called Condor Galaxy. This network consists of nine interconnected supercomputers that use a new approach to speed up artificial intelligence (AI) model training. The first supercomputer, CG-1, has a lot of computing power with 4 exaFLOPs and 54 million cores. They plan to deploy two more supercomputers, CG-2 and CG-3, in the U.S. soon. The whole network will have a total capacity of 36 exaFLOPs, making it a game-changer for AI development worldwide.
