Grammys Ban Fully AI-Generated Songs

The GRAMMY Awards have updated their rules to address the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on human creativity in music. They want to make sure that humans continue to be recognized for their artistic contributions.

While AI-generated music can be submitted for consideration, the GRAMMYs will only be given to human creators who have made significant creative contributions in relevant categories like songwriting and performance.

Can you speak to the AI-related protocols instituted for the 2024 GRAMMYs?

At this point, we are going to allow AI music and content to be submitted, but the GRAMMYs will only be allowed to go to human creators who have contributed creatively in the appropriate categories. If there's an AI voice singing the song or AI instrumentation, we'll consider it. But in a songwriting-based category, it has to have been written mostly by a human. Same goes for performance categories – only a human performer can be considered for a GRAMMY.

If AI did the songwriting or created the music, that's a different consideration. But the GRAMMY will go to human creators at this point.

3D Views Of The Titanic

The Titanic, the world's most famous shipwreck, has been digitally scanned for the first time, providing a unique 3D view of the entire ship. The scan, created using deep-sea mapping, reveals the Titanic as if the water has been drained away. The project involved submersibles spending over 200 hours surveying the wreck and taking more than 700,000 images.

Even after over 100 years, the Titanic continues to captivate the attention of people worldwide. The recent incident involving the missing tourist submersible near the Titanic shipwreck serves as a reminder of the enduring fascination surrounding the historic tragedy.

Google’s Secure AI Framework

Google has introduced the Secure AI Framework (SAIF) to enhance the security of AI systems. SAIF has six core elements:

  1. Strengthen security foundations and expertise for AI.

  2. Expand threat detection and response to include AI-related incidents.

  3. Automate defenses using AI innovations.

  4. Harmonize security controls across platforms and tools.

  5. Adapt controls based on evolving threats and feedback.

  6. Contextualize AI risks within business processes and conduct risk assessments.

SAIF aims to keep pace with AI advancements and improve the overall security of AI systems.

Creator of GitHub Copilot Got $20K Bonus

GitHub is a popular platform for storing and sharing code. Microsoft acquired GitHub for $7.5 billion in 2018, and it now generates $1 billion in annual revenue. GitHub makes money through subscription plans and fees from third-party app sales. It offers Free, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions.

GitHub Copilot uses AI to suggest code based on natural language prompts in various programming languages. The creator of Copilot shared on Twitter that he received a $20,000 USD bonus and a title promotion as compensation for developing the tool.

Tweet went viral because he suggested joining a startup, implying the payoff from a big company was so great.
