The Rich, Microsoft, Get Richer

Microsoft's stock rose 6% after announcing Copilot, an AI-powered addition to Microsoft 365 for $30/month per user. This innovation excited investors, adding $154 billion to Microsoft's market value. Copilot helps users with document summarization, email composition, and Excel analysis. Microsoft aims to lead in AI and capitalize on its massive customer base.

Guess Whose Back, Sergey Brin, Back Again

Google co-founder Sergey Brin is back at the company, working on an AI project called Gemini. He stepped down in 2019 but is now helping with AI research and hiring. Google wants to keep up with AI competition like Meta's Llama 2.

TUC is Afraid of Being Trapped By A.I.

The Trades Union Congress says the UK is falling behind in protecting workers from AI. The government hasn't made plans to regulate how AI is used in hiring, firing, and work conditions, like the EU has done. Some companies are using AI to do tasks that used to be done by people, like answering customer service queries. AI can be helpful, but it's also changing jobs and could take away some work from people. The TUC is worried that UK laws aren't keeping up with this AI revolution. Some people think AI can be great for things like making new medicines, but it's also causing concerns, like stealing artists' voices without permission. It's important for governments and businesses to handle AI responsibly and make sure it benefits everyone.

Some people are using a trick called "white fonting" on their resumes to try and get past computer filters used by employers. They copy important keywords from the job description, paste them into their resume, and change the font color to white. This makes the keywords invisible to people but may be detected by the computer filters, which could help their resume get noticed. However, experts warn that this trick is risky and dishonest. Employers may still find out, and it could harm a person's chances of getting the job. It's better to spend time customizing your resume to match the job requirements honestly.

A.I. Embracing Virginia

Enabled Intelligence, an AI company, is investing $1.4 million to expand its headquarters in Fairfax County, Virginia. This will create over 100 new jobs. The company provides data labeling services for AI applications and plans to add office space for the expansion. The move is praised for utilizing the skilled and diverse workforce in the area.

UN Wants A.I. Under Their Thumb

The United Nations wants to create a new international group to manage the use of artificial intelligence (AI). AI has both good and bad potential, so the UN wants to set rules for how it's used to keep people safe. AI is already being used by the UN to monitor violence, but it can also be misused for harmful purposes. The UN aims to ban AI in fully automated weapons of war by 2026. Different countries have different views on AI rules, and China wants to ensure its voice is heard in creating these rules. The tech industry also spoke up, saying that AI development should not be controlled solely by private companies but should involve governments and societies as a whole.
