OpenAI's Project Strawberry
OpenAI is working on a potentially groundbreaking project, codenamed Strawberry, aimed at developing advanced reasoning capabilities in AI models, according to leaked internal documents. This initiative seeks to enable AI to learn, adapt, and solve problems like the human brain, which is crucial for achieving artificial general intelligence (AGI). The project, still in progress and tightly kept secret, is expected to push the boundaries of AI beyond current capabilities, focusing on human-like reasoning and autonomous deep research.
OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman hinted at future iterations of AI with better capabilities, reassuring that the company is considering ethical implications as AI technology advances.
Global News
New UK government and AI
During the state opening of Parliament, King Charles III outlined the new Labour government’s legislative agenda, hinting at future AI regulation but without specific details. The speech indicated plans to establish legislation for developing powerful AI models, marking a shift from the previous Conservative government's cautious approach. The Labour Party’s manifesto had promised to support AI development and introduce regulations to ensure safety and prevent misuse, such as banning explicit deepfakes.
However, the specifics of "binding regulation" remain undecided. The AI industry anticipates clear guidance, while balancing innovation and regulation remains a challenge. The new government inherits commitments from the previous administration, such as the global AI Safety Summit, but certainty about the UK's AI legislative regime is still awaited.
