Can A.I. Commit Libel?
A.I. is under a lot of criticism for people using it nefariously.
The tech world is in a legal mess as AI's talent for creating fake news clashes with defamation laws for libel. If you don’t know what libel means, don’t sweat it. We had to Google it as well. Here’s the definition:
Libel - a published false statement that is damaging to a person's reputation; a written defamation.

Wix’s New A.I. Tool
Wix is hyped about AI Site Generator, making website creation super easy. You describe what you want, and boom! The AI spits out a complete website with all the bells and whistles. Wix believes AI can simplify the process and handle the techy stuff. They're all about helping struggling small businesses get online hassle-free.
Here's how it works: You give the AI some prompts, and it creates a custom web template just for you. It's like chatting with a bot that asks questions about your business. You get tailored text, design, and images.
Wix isn't the only one in the game, but they claim their AI Site Generator rocks because it automatically integrates cool features like e-commerce and scheduling. It's a one-stop shop for all your website needs.
You're not stuck with the AI's design either. Wix lets you customize it with their editing tools. They're even working on new features like an AI page creator and an object eraser for image manipulation. They've got big plans!
But wait, there's a downside. Generative AI can churn out low-quality content and spam search engines. It can also hallucinate and say offensive stuff or plagiarize. Yikes!
Wix knows there's a problem and they're fighting it. They have tools to tackle spam and abuse. They've tested their AI with loads of data and have measures in place to prevent misuse. They're serious about keeping things clean and safe.
Will Wix's strategy be a hit? Only time will tell. Let's hope we get awesome AI-powered websites without the drawbacks. Fingers crossed!
Designers Taking Shein to Court
Shein, a big fashion company worth a whopping $66 billion, is in hot water. Some designers are suing them, claiming that Shein keeps stealing their original artwork.
They say Shein's fancy AI design process helps them create exact copies that mess up the designers' careers. The designers even brought up the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), usually used against mobsters, to make their case. Shein responded, saying they take it seriously and will fight back. But Shein has a history of bad behavior, including mistreating artists, workers, and the environment. They try to act all socially and environmentally conscious, but people aren't buying it.
Kenyan Workers Call for Investigation into Big Tech
Workers in Kenya who were involved in content moderation and AI work for OpenAI's ChatGPT are speaking up. They've filed a petition asking the government to investigate how big tech companies outsource these jobs in Kenya. According to the workers, they were treated unfairly, didn't receive proper support, and had to deal with disturbing content that messed with their mental health. They want regulations to protect workers in these roles and to make sure harmful technology isn't outsourced without consequences.
The company at the center of the issue, Sama, has big clients like Google and Microsoft.
They recently laid off some workers and are open to audits to ensure fair working conditions. OpenAI, on the other hand, acknowledges that the work is tough and claims to have set ethical and wellness standards. They appreciate the workers' efforts in making AI systems safer.
Who is Responsible for Lies Generated from AI?
Uh-oh! . Can mischievous AI models like ChatGPT actually commit libel? It's as mysterious as the technology itself, but upcoming legal battles might bring some answers.
Defamation is spreading damaging lies about someone, and let me tell you, the laws around it are a tangled web that differs from place to place. Libel in the U.S., the U.K., or Australia, where the drama's unfolding, all have their quirks.
Generative AI has caused quite a ruckus in the legal realm. Is it fair use or copyright infringement when AI borrows someone else's work? Until recently, AI models couldn't create anything convincingly real, so discussions about false info were just geeky debates.
But hold on tight! The language model behind ChatGPT and Bing Chat has become a master of garbage. It's integrated everywhere, from search engines to popular platforms. It went from a glitchy experiment to a full-fledged publishing powerhouse.
Now, imagine this fancy tool writing about scandalous politicians or accusing professors of being creepy. Not long ago, people wouldn't have taken those false statements seriously. But today, these models confidently spew out answers, even if they're made up or mixed with truth. The problem is, they don't care about the truth itself—just how real it seems. It's cool for homework help, but if they falsely accuse you of a crime, watch out for potential libel!
