“Apple Intelligence” Personal AI

Apple Intelligence, integrated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, combines generative AI with personal context to enhance user productivity and creativity while maintaining privacy. Key features include systemwide Writing Tools for rewriting, proofreading, and summarizing text, and Smart Reply in Mail for quick responses. The new Priority Notifications highlight important alerts, and a Reduce Interruptions Focus mode minimizes distractions.

Apple Intelligence also enables advanced photo and video search, custom image creation, and automatic transcription and summarization of audio recordings. Additionally, Siri has been upgraded for more natural interactions and better integration with apps. Apple's Private Cloud Compute ensures that AI processing remains private and secure, with independent verification of server software. ChatGPT integration allows users to generate content and images seamlessly across Apple's platforms.

European Instagram and Facebook data for AI training

Meta plans to use public data from European users to train its AI models, despite strict EU data privacy laws. This move aims to improve the AI's understanding of European languages, geography, and cultural references. However, privacy group NOYB has raised concerns, urging regulators to halt these plans. Meta’s AI assistant features are available in several countries but not in Europe due to these privacy concerns.

Meta's Stefano Fratta stated that other companies like Google and OpenAI already use European data and that Meta won’t use private messages or data from users under 18. Meta has informed European users about this through notifications and emails, allowing them to opt out, with the new privacy policy set to take effect on June 26.

DuckDuckGo AI Chat

DuckDuckGo has introduced a new AI chat tool offering anonymous access to four generative AI models—GPT-3.5 Turbo, Claude 3 Haiku, Meta Llama 3, and Mistral's Mixtral 8x7B—through a dedicated website or its browser. This tool provides privacy by removing users' IP addresses and using DuckDuckGo's own, ensuring chats are not saved or stored permanently.

Conversations are anonymized, and agreements with AI providers mandate the deletion of saved chats within 30 days without using the content to train models. While currently free, DuckDuckGo plans to introduce a paid option with higher limits and more advanced features.

Hollywood and AI

The 2024 Hollywood Innovation and Transformation Summit and Entertainment Evolution Symposium, held in Los Angeles, brought together academics, industry experts, and key stakeholders to address complex business problems and explore the role of AI in the media and entertainment industry.

Organized in partnership between the Hollywood IT Society and the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, the one-day event featured various speakers and sessions focusing on how AI can revolutionize content production and business processes.
