A.I. Will Replace Programmers In 5 Years

Emad Mostaque, the CEO of Stability AI, predicts that in five years, there will be no need for human programmers as artificial intelligence (AI) continues to advance. He bases his argument on the fact that 41% of all code currently being written is generated by AI, surpassing the popularity of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum on platforms like GitHub.

If you are teaching your kids python or a first year computer science student what are your thoughts on this? I’m thinking five years is a bit aggressive.

Full interview in video below or jump to discusion at 13:45 min mark where he explains his reasoning.

A.I. Company Acquired For $1.3 Billion

Databricks has acquired MosaicML, a Generative AI startup, for a hefty price of $1.3 billion. This translates to approximately $21 million per employee, including employee retention packages. The acquisition is part of Databricks' aggressive strategy to acquire Generative AI startups, highlighting the high cost associated with such endeavors. However, the long-term benefits may outweigh the immediate expenses, considering the significant market potential.

Harvey.ai Only Has 12 Employees

Generative AI startup, Harvey.ai raised $21 million in funding led by Sequoia Capital in April 2023. Harvey is using OpenAI's GPT-4 large language model to provide law firms AI powered tools, including generating natural language queries, summarizing documents, and assisting with legal briefs. With over 15,000 law firms on its waitlist, Harvey aims to become a platform for legal workflow rather than just a chatbot.

While Harvey.ai may have initially seemed like the frontrunner, with just 12 employees, it appears there's still plenty of room for others to join the party. Who knows, maybe JackieChiles.ai could strut in with a catchy name and steal the show!

1.3 Billion In Funding For Year Old Startup

AI startup Inflection AI, led by ex-DeepMind leader Mustafa Suleyman, raised $1.3 billion in funding from Microsoft, Nvidia, Reid Hoffman, Bill Gates, and Eric Schmidt. Their valuation now stands at $4 billion. Inflection uses OpenAI's GPT-4 and boasts the world's best AI hardware setup with 22,000 NVIDIA H100 GPUs in one cluster.

They anticipate raising more funding at an accelerated rate to fuel their growth. Their chatbot Pi received a lot of press but I personally didn’t find it to be very impressive but so much computing power a lot of improvement is possible. Try it out here. Sample results below.

Musk Blames A.I. Data Scrapers

Ugh, I really didn't want to write about Twitter or Musk, but here we go again.

Elon Musk has announced temporary limits on how many posts users can read on Twitter. Unverified accounts will be limited to 600 posts per day, while new unverified accounts can only see 300 posts per day. Verified accounts have a limit of 6,000 posts per day. Musk later tweeted that the limits would soon increase to 8,000 tweets for verified users, 800 for unverified, and 400 for new unverified accounts.

Musk blames the limitations on AI companies scraping vast amounts of data, affecting the user experience. These restrictions come after Twitter blocked access for non-logged-in users due to aggressive scraping by hundreds of organizations.
