POLITICS
“Make America First in AI"
Allies of former President Donald Trump have drafted an AI executive order to boost military technology and reduce AI development regulations, signaling a potential policy shift if Trump wins the 2024 election. The draft, titled "Make America First in AI," contrasts with President Biden's approach, which emphasizes AI safety testing.
The proposed order includes "Manhattan Projects" for military AI and suggests creating "industry-led" agencies to evaluate AI models and protect against foreign threats.

GOVERNMENT
CIA’s approach to using AI
The CIA has been using AI for years in areas like natural language processing and computer vision, and recently developed a generative AI tool, Osiris, for intelligence purposes. The urgency within the U.S. intelligence community to adopt AI at scale is driven by geopolitical tensions, and partnerships with private industry are crucial for providing advanced AI tools.
Lakshmi Raman, the director of AI at the CIA, insists that the CIA follows all legal and ethical guidelines, ensuring AI use is transparent and mitigates bias.
BIG TECH

Despite various challenges, signs of progress are emerging, with OpenAI hiring former Google chip experts and discussing chip development with Broadcom and TSMC.
Altman's efforts aim to increase computing power for AI development, addressing competition from tech giants like Google and Meta.
