Elon Musk and XAi team launches Grok

XAi has rolled out a new AI chatbot named Grok, an AI chatbot with a unique personality inspired by "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." Despite his recent declaration about AI posing a significant threat to humanity, Musk's new venture indicates a more playful approach to the technology. Grok, which will be offered to premium subscribers of Musk's X platform. The bot, currently in early testing phases, showcases Musk's complex relationship with AI, intertwining caution with innovation.

Grok's creation stems from Musk's newly founded AI company, xAI, and is built on the large language model Grok-1, which reportedly outperforms the freely available GPT-3.5 in certain areas but not the more advanced GPT-4. Grok reflects Musk's vision of an AI with a touch of humor, intending to provide answers and even suggest questions. It's currently available to a select group of U.S. users and promises further enhancements soon.

AI assistant for research

Eric Schmidt, the former Google CEO, is investing in a nonprofit named Future House, with the ambition to revolutionize the scientific research process using artificial intelligence. This venture aims to create an AI-powered laboratory assistant capable of analyzing scientific papers, formulating hypotheses, conducting experiments, and drawing conclusions.

Future House, which Schmidt is funding for its initial five years, plans to expend around $20 million by the end of 2024, focusing on hiring talent and establishing a fully equipped "wet" laboratory. Schmidt's vision for Future House draws inspiration from his experiences at Xerox’s Palo Alto Research Center, aspiring to create an environment that fosters rapid innovation by exceptional young researchers.
